What to Expect at Cleveland Pride 2017

For some, Cleveland Pride will be their first Pride event. For others, this could be their 28th! The beauty of Pride is that every festival is different, which is dictated by all of you- the unique individuals who attend and make it your own. This is YOUR Pride after all. Prides ebb and flow with societal changes, but there are some things that never waiver: our pride and support for one another. So whether you want to get on stage and dance, wander around to each vendor booth, or just chow down on some BBQ, there’s something for everyone at Pride. Here are just some of the things to expect at Cleveland Pride 2017, but the rest is up to you!

This Saturday, June 24th, the 28th annual Cleveland Pride Parade, Rally, and Festival begins! The gates open at 11am for attendees to enter the gorgeous Voinovich Park. Cleveland Pride believes that the entire community, regardless of their socioeconomic status, should be able to enjoy Pride and all of its amenities, which is why we have remained one of the few Pride festivals that do not charge an admission fee. Donations are accepted at the main gate, but no one will ever be turned away for the inability or choice to not contribute.

Upon entering Voinovich Park, attendees will find beautiful Lake Erie, along with over 50 vendors lining the walkways and 200 volunteers present to assist. Food is available at Nuevo Modern Mexican, as well as at our food court featuring East Coast Custard, the Croqueteria, the Root Cafe, Bailey’s Boardwalk Fries and Funnel Cakes, Sophie’s Italian Sausage, Word of Mouth BBQ, Sander’s Concessions, and Original Greek Gyros and Fresh Squeezed Lemonade. Pop and water is for sale at several points around the park sold by representatives from local college and university LGBTQ organizations!

The parade steps off at noon from West 3rd and St. Clair, proceeds east on Lakeside, then north on E. 9th  directly into Voinovich Park. This year’s parade will be led by our Grand Marshal, Linda Krasienko, founder of A Place for Us, a Cleveland retirement home for the low-income aging LGBTQ population and their allies.

Once at the park, the rally will begin at our Triangle Main Stage with performances by the Blazing River Freedom Band, North Coast Men’s Chorus, and Windsong, followed by speeches from Nickie Antonio, Steven Dettelbach, and Dr. Kenneth Chalker.

After the rally, the Main Stage opens back up to the performers and the festival relaunches with all of the action on our two entertainment stages, Children’s Zone, and Youth Towne! This is truly a family-friendly event with activities for all ages.
